Crazy Busy April

by Amy Konecny

This month as been Crazy Busy.

Mostly I have been making a LOT of custom orders.  It's normal for me to work most of January on custom orders that have built up over the last quarter, but this month as seen a large number as well.  It was unexpected and different, but not unappreciated. I have also added more new funky bracelets to than normal for a month so I have been spending a lot of time creating new art.  It's a good thing, but when you are....

let me digress for a moment and get all technical.  Most people are either dominant in there right brain or left brain.  This means that the Left - Artistic side of there brain or the Right - Math and Logic side of there brain is what is most dominate in that person.  However I have the rare and really cool for me dual hemispheres witch means I'm usually good at both creativity and logic plus until I broke my left arm as a child was ambidextrous (I can still use my left hand for most thing that I had learned up to that time, but I have to think about it).  However one of the interesting things is if I spend to much time focusing on one side of me (creativity or logic) the other side suffers.  So if I spend a lot of time doing nothing, but office work and making schedules, appointments, or just solving problems my ability to create artwork goes down and I have to really struggle to make anything interesting.  On the other hand if I spend a month immersed in creating new art my ability to keep up with anything mundane like actually getting the finished product to my customers on time, paying bills (thank goodness for reminder emails), or general office work becomes the struggle and I turn into the typical scatter-brained artist of story and legend.

All this means is that I did the scatter-brained artist thing and only posted one blog this month and forgot to send my customers pictures of the finished work, so bracelets that where ready to go sat around for an extra week because WOW it's amazing none of my customers have the ability to see the images I don't send them.  Who would have thought none of the lady's where psychic. It also means that I had a LOT of fun coming up with new Funky Bracelets ideas like the one below...

Kittendor

I did the whole line so there is Kittendor, Sloberin, Flufflepuff, and Bearclaw.   I also now have a Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Maleficent, Boba Fett, Weasley Twins, I Love Lucy, and a few others.  I am still working on a Zelda Breath of the Wild and 2 other custom orders.  As I said it has been a busy month.

So I have a question for you.  Do any of the above new Funky Bracelets make you squee and should I and any of them to the website?  Let me know what you think.  You can just comment on this post, send me an email, or message me on Facebook or Patreon.

Once I get the rest of the Custom Orders cleared up I will only make One new funky bracelet next month so hopefully things will go back to normal and I'll post every Monday.  Fingers crossed.

When Things Go Wrong

The Kiln, the kiln, the kiln is on Fire.

Some of you may have heard my tails of woe, but for thous of you who have not heard, my kiln caught fire on Tuesday.  Luckily Chance and I are good in a crisis situation and we did not panic.  In fact the excitement level was about on par with asking someone to pass the salt at the dinner table.  That is good because we where able to take care of the situation and no damage was done to the house.  We just tuned off then unplugged the kiln, got the fire extinguisher (that is always near by) and then opened the door and put out the fire.  Sadly this meant that I was out of a kiln for a week and orders have been delayed.  Just got the new one in today and was playing around with it, hence the late blog post.   Sadly part of the playing around with the kiln was determining if it works or not and well... it must have gotten damaged in shipping and it in fact was not functioning properly.  The company that I am working with have been great and are rushing me out another one and I'll have it by Wednesday.  So fingers crossed that this one will work.  If it dose I'll be able to get all the special orders out on Friday and hopefully will be able to get a new item up on my website for next Monday.

Hope your upcoming week is less exciting than my past week.

All Elements In Balance

This week I am bringing back the 4 Elements Earrings.

If you are a big old Geek like me and are into the Anime/Manga "Avatar the Last Air Binder" or are of a more spiritual inclination I hope you will get as big of a kick out of these earrings as I do.  They have the symbols for earth, air, fire, & water all in balance, The symbol's are quite old and are the Asian not European ones.  The choice of the bead at the top was actually quite hard since most colors are associated with one of the 4 main elements.  So in the end I chose a crystal bead that has a Champagne gold coating over the top.  It seamed like a good neutral color, but was still pretty and would go with a lot.

Getting Lost Can Be an Experience All on It's Own

Getting Lost in Savannah, GA Can Be an Experience All on It's Own.

Well I was not technically lost.  I found Laurel Grove Cemetery several years ago when I took a wrong exit heading to the Convention Center in Savannah on Halloween and the new rout the GPS took me practically dumped me there.  I only had a few minutes to check it out at the time, but this past weekend I ended up taking the same wrong exit and it reminded me of this really old and cool place that I had been wanting to explore.  So this Sunday I left the hotel early so I could have an hour to wonder around.  It was not nearly enough time, but I got some really cool pictures.  Below are some of my favorites.

Laurel Grove Cemetery was "Originally part of the a plantation owned by the Stiles family, the land was acquired by the City of Savannah in 1850, and it became the city's primary burial ground. This lovely cemetery features small parks, detailed ironwork and ornate mausoleums."

Most of the plots where divided by either stone or ironwork

And some of the Gates where just spectacular.

Some of the plots where in amazing repair  Like this one where the youngest marker was dated 1928, the oldest was from 1888.

And some plots had bowed to the ravages of time.

It was an hour well spent and I plan on going back next time I'm in Savannah.  It gave off a similar feeling to the City's of the Dead in New Orleans (not exactly mind you to the feeling was similar).   If you find yourself in Savannah and have a few extra hours in your day you should check out this historic sight.  For more information on Laurel Grove Cemetery click hear.

2016 In Review... Mostly

2016 In Review... Mostly

I know it's late January and I am only now getting the year in review done, but hay at least I am getting it done this year so I'll call this a win.  Though it's more of a highlight real than a true review (and more photos cause I like pictures they make me happy).

The year started with some sole searching and deciding that I would invest in costume made stamps so I could stamp out 1% of the charms I make instead of always hand-drawing them.  This was actually a bigger decision than you might think since I have prided myself on giving you truly handmade creations.  However after talking with several of my customers I came to understand that as long as the artwork is still my own, that the quality is still there, and I can keep my prices reasonable then it was all good.  So to all my wonderful Customers that talked with me about this (I was struggling).  I thank you and my Hand thanks you (hand cramps are a real thing).  Below are 2 of the items that are stamped instead of hand-drawn.

We launched out Hair Stakes in March and I even managed to get a few of them up on the web-sight.   This was both good an bad since they where a big success it meant we made more money (always a good thing) and our customers where happy.  The down part was I had to make more charms.

Since my parents retired to Florida; yes I know cliche, but we have lived there before and Mom is supper happy (In the winter she is always telling me that it's so cold it got down to 60 degrees, ugg) we did several con's down there and had lots of fun doing the Florida thing.

2016 also saw a change in the types of shows we do.  We changed from doing mostly Arts and Crafts shows and Festivals to doing mostly Con's.  This change came about because Tig and I just did not want to deal with the weather anymore and most Arts & Crafts shows are outdoors for a good part of the year while Con's are indoors all the time.  Oh blessed AC how I love you.  Also on the lazy side a 8 foot artist ally table is way easier to set-up, brake-down and travel with than a 10'x10' booth.  Indoors and easier I really Love Con's.

Because I am really bad with keeping up with social media it was decided that the best thing to do was to add another social media outlet to my plate.  So we launched our Patreon page in May.  Actually it is really cool and would be more so if Tig and I could manage to actually post things on a regular basis, but that is 2017's goal.  The best thing about Patreon is that for all of you who just can't get enough of Subscription Boxes you can sign up for one there that will get you an Awesome Box of Jewelry each month with the latest items that I have created (it's really a padded envelope full of jewelry not a box), along with a bunch of other goodies.  I'll go more into how to get an Awesome Box of Jewelry in February.  For now check out our Patreon page for blog posts that can only be seen there and other fun things.

I realized that Reidsville actually had Sidewalks and I could get from my house to the Post Office and only have to walk on the road a little bit (no really this was a surprise since the sidewalks in Reidsville are very random and few).  Along with eating better the walks to the Post Office helped my lose 32 pounds 2016.  So if you think about it your online orders are not only helping my bottom line and giving you awesome jewelry it's helping me lose wight.  Thanks again to my awesome customers *Big Smile*.  Below is one of the cool houses I see on my walk.

Okay  I know I did more last year, but my brain is mush and can't think of anything else.

2017 will have lots of changes and new things to blog about so keep watch and I will post regularly-ish.  I will be changing to only posting on Monday's.  This is mostly because posting 2x's a week is quite the struggle for me and I end up messing more than I should so hopefully with the decrees in pressure I will actually post more.   You know because I hate talking and just can't think of thinks to type... no really I'm all shy and reserved *looks left, looks right* no really it's true.

Have any thoughts?  Please leave a comment.

On The Road Home From Las Vegas

by Amy Konecny

So Happy to be Home!

It was quite the adventure to drive all the way to Las Vegas and back and I am most happy that I will not be doing that trip for another year.  Here are some of the things we did on the way back home.  If you follow us on Instagram you have most likely seen many of these pictures, but some will be new.

Got to see a lot of beautiful vistas.

Ran into a crazy ton of Dinosaurs

We left early on Monday so we would have the chance to drive trough the Petrified Forest.  Wish we had made it an even earlier day because the 3 hours we had where just not enough it was all just so beautiful and amazing.

Had a brief run-in with a bear.  Could not decide if he was giving me 5 or trying to crush me then eat me.  He looked happy so it could go either way.

Got our oil changed at this amazing little shop in Shawnee Oklahoma.  It's called Kwik Kar and If you ever find yourself in the area I would defiantly recommend stopping by.  Super Clean, Super nice, and fast.  What more could you ask for.

That Night while still in Oklahoma we stayed at a Best Western... Not normally a chain I frequent because well I'm a snob and like to actuality sleep when traveling.  I did not get a picture of the room, it was around midnight when we checked in and I was completely Knackered.  The room was so cute, it was like going to a friends house where they have a room set aside just for visitors (yes I know it's called a guestroom).  Even the food at breakfast was well made. not just microwaved eggs and bacon, it was real food, they even got the oatmeal right (I am a total oatmeal snob so this almost never comes out of my mouth). So if you are traveling out west and find yourself around Weatherford, OK  drive the extra distance and stay at this cute hotel.

Okay this is the end of the photo dump.  Hope you vicariously enjoyed our trip to Vegas and back.
